I recently was hired to revamp/create a new library resource system at an automotive tech college. Turns out they have no budget, old, used books, and no organizational system. I have been a public librarian for 20 years, but not an academic one.
Anybody have experience with this or have any great ideas? I don't want to use traditional LC cataloging; the collection is mostly made up of automotive manuals to back up the ones that are on-line. Someone suggested ResourceMate. Has anyone used that?

Did you end up using this software? It was suggested for my library and I would like to hear your thoughts on this system or any other low cost system that you ended up purchasing.

Ah, nothing like a challenge!

-Lots of possible SW options - including something basic like MS Access - assuming it's already preloaded & students/staff reasonably familiar with.

-Have you considered book store display for "organization"?

-Have you access to LibGuide type software? something that would allow you to create 1 stop shop aids for the students? Assume you'll be building a web presence? Lots of good "free" web resources out there that many students haven't found yet. Links to the collection at local public libraries particularly if they have access to additional relevant resources.

Good Luck!
