In true 2.0 form, I think that we library-2.0-landers should host an Unconference ala Mashup Camp or Barcamp.

This will have to be a true labor of love, since the whole point of an Unconference is to find out what it is about once you get there - a conference sans set agenda and presenters -- essentially EVERYONE who attends has the option to be a presenter if they feel so compelled.

I know that this flies in the face of typical Travel or Conference Requests. Most of us would have to take vacation time and pay for our way on our own dime. But I think that enough of us care enough about the idea of grassroots connectivity to actually accomplish this.

Thoughts? Please chime in!

Don't tempt me, Mary Beth. I got my undergrad degree at the University of Minnesota, and I still miss the place. ;-p
Amen.
I agree with Michael. Particularly at a stage when most of us have not met face to face, a solely online unconference seems premature.
I also think that an F2F does not exclude the possibility of online participation. A nice laptop lab or something (if available) could be a great boon to folks in an open space-ish kind of activity.
The HigherEdBlogCon was a successful virtual conference held last summer that might serve as a model of a completely wiki-based conference if we want to do both. Their website is still available at http://www.higheredblogcon.com/ for ideas.
Although a Second Life unconference might be fun, too, so that instead of geographical barriers we can grapple with technical barriers. Heh.
Good for those of us in Australia..but if I was on that side of the world, I'd want to plan a f2f one too.

How about having the unconf in Second Life? (Leaves the room on her bandwagon).
I would participate in SL. I have no money for additional travels than I have already committed too.
Didn't someone in these-here parts mention a Library Camp in NYC in August? That kind of appealed to me.
Thanks! I look for all good excuses to visit NYC. 8-)
If anyone is interested in a UK unconference, please reply or leave a comment on this blog post. Cheers!
I'm interested in a UK conference, too bad I'm in the US. :) Another colleague and I just submitted an application for Internet Librarian International 2007 - I really want to visit London. :)
