Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

This presentation will address the evolving and multiple roles that information professionals and librarians can play in crisis/ disaster resilience and response when communities face a crisis / disaster. In particular, the presentation will discuss the FEMA (US Federal Emergency Management Agency) Crisis Response and Disaster Resilience 2030: Forging Strategic Action in an Age of Uncertainty report published this year. The Report foresees “an emergency management community prepared for whatever challenges the future holds and a common sense of direction and urgency, to drive action toward meeting our shared future needs.”

The presentation will explore how LIS professionals and educators can help address and respond to some of the future challenges raised in the Report under the three strategic needs : essential capabilities; innovative models and tools, and dynamic partnerships. The presentation and discussion will add to the ongoing conversation among the diverse group of emergency management stakeholders and will consider how LIS professionals and educators can engage in a culture of “futures thinking” as outlined in the Report.

Chris:  this looks fascinating, but you don't have a strand or strands picked for it.  Is that because it doesn't fit neatly anywhere?

Steve,

It fits in with Strand 2. I did assign the tag 2.012Librarians.

Thanks Chris
