Short Session Description (one line): Establishing regular librarian visits to a department across campus is remarkably like doing distance library services, especially for the primarily commuting student population in the Nursing Department.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): At my university, the Nursing Department is both one of the furthest departments from the library and one in which the students have the tightest schedules. Almost all of the students work, many full time. They have a busy and highly structured course schedule. All of this means the students rarely have a chance to visit the library, and even more rarely during regular working hours, very like the true distance students I serve in my capacity as Library Distance Learning Coordinator. As the Nursing subject librarian, 2 years ago I started a pilot program of regular visits to the department, setting up my wireless laptop in the lobby of the Nursing Building. This fall I'm doing a short, qualitative survey of the students on their responses to the project. This presentation will be a description of the program and a summary of the survey results.
