the future of libraries in the digital age
This piece isn't about the sessions, it's about the experience of attending an online conference. The flow is a little jumpy because I was working on it a bit too fast, apologies in advance, http://associates.ucr.edu/journal/?page_id=1311
A point I thought of afterwards is that unlike other conferences it isn't easy to store the information - other conferences would have papers or recordings that could be downloaded and maybe catalogued but the sessions using the Blackboard Collaborate system can't be downloaded as single files (unless I'm missing something). The files are available separately as chat, participants list and whiteboard. If anyone knows a work around for this I'd love to hear it. Not every participant would want to store information from the conferences of course, but there are libraries where keeping a record of various conferences is a regular part of the work - and would be rather problematic with this system.
Overall my experience was wonderful and I thank everyone who worked on organising it.

Permalink Reply by Steve Hargadon on December 12, 2011 at 2:16pm Hi, Julanne! Each session does have a full Collaborate recording, which includes everything as if you were watching live. And there is a spreadsheet of all sessions and the recording links. Let me know if these address your questions!
Permalink Reply by Julanne Hennessy on December 14, 2011 at 4:07am I know I can watch them, I was talking about the possibility of saving them to keep in a library collection. I've watched most of the ones I couldn't attend now, spent some time catching up.
Permalink Reply by Steve Hargadon on December 17, 2011 at 10:55am Blackboard just announced that they are making their "Publish" program free, which means that you could convert any of the recordings to a format you wanted to save them in. I'll send out more information as I get it--just read about the change this morning!
