Short Session Description (one line): Find out what we learned from circulating 270 eReaders at our public library.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Frustrated with the lack of control over eBook content, Sacramento Public Library (SacLib) applied for an LSTA grant through the California State Library to implement an eReader lending program. The State Library generously awarded SacLib $100,000 to circulate eReaders and forge a relationship with Barnes & Noble at the local level. By National Library Week in April 2011, they had implemented an eReader program that put devices along with content into the hands of patrons. By end of the duration of the grant, SacLib was circulating 270 Nooks while maintaining a healthy 5:1 holds ratio.
Because assessment was a large piece of the grant, SacLib created both internal and external documents that were shared in the grant assessment along with survey tools and results.
This session will show you the results of the assessment and demonstrate how to get started circulating eReaders at your public library.
