Short Session Description (one line):
How to build the best school book club ever and strengthen library use, increase reading leadership and just plain have fun!
Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
Join Teacher Librarians Phil Goerner (Silver Creek High School, St Vrain Valley Schools CO) and Beatrice Gerrish (Monarch High School, Boulder Valley Schools CO) as they take you through the steps of building a dynamic, strong and supported high school book club like the model at Monarch High School.
You’ll learn this program was initiated, strengthened and is now moving to new levels. Using online applications in combination with strong reading incentives, students flock to this club to share ideas, stories and fun. Students meet regularly to share incredibly meaningful and relevant conversations, participate in activities and often will get to participate in the all night movie review! You will hear how book clubs like this can not only develop opportunities for readers but can expand into some school wide initiatives resulting in increased library use, collaborative opportunities with academic programs as well as increased student pride in library programs.
Finally, learn how you can adapt this innovative model to your own school situation, network with other book clubs and strengthen various literacy aspects in your school.
