Short Session Description (one line):  Is there a gender difference in the use of profile photos in Libguides?

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): In an effort to discover whether or not there are gender differences in librarians’ use of personal images in online profiles, this presentation will review the findings of a study of LibGuides at selected ARL institutions.  By looking at the LibGuides accounts, where available for these libraries, the research reviewed whether or not images were available for librarians.  When gender was discernible findings compare the use of professional head shots, casual head shots, other photos, alternate images, avatars, and no image.  For a smaller selection of libraries, libguides photos were compared with Facebook and other social media site photos to see if a different image was used for professional versus personal social media setting.

Thanks, Minglu!

Denise,

We did have some preconceived notions going in but some were upended by the research results.  It is interesting!
