Due to the radical changes in the information landscape brought on by technological advances, libraries are facing somewhat of an “identity crisis.” Information professionals are thus faced with many challenges and opportunities to implement strategic change in their organizations. This presentation highlights the importance of strategic thinking for leading libraries and helping them to address the evolving community information needs and expectations. Furthermore, the importance of implementing a synergistic cycle of strategic thinking, strategic planning and strategic execution in managing contemporary information organizations is discussed. Recommendations will be presented for restructuring LIS management courses in order to help prepare our future library leaders.
