Short Session Description (one line):  Using O*NET to Inform Design of Information Literacy Instruction for trades, vocational and workforce library users

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Community college librarians need to be able to create information literacy programs for a wide range of vocational, workforce, or trades programs. Focus group participants told the researchers that they felt unprepared to understand the information needs of these various programs. Using O*NET can give librarians an overview of what information work activities are done in various jobs. The session will introduce O*NET and show how information work activities relate to the ACRL standards. Additionally, the session will look at how some librarians collaborate with vocational faculty to create meaningful information literacy projects. Public librarians who are now being asked to provide information literacy instruction to displaced workers may be helped by this session.
