I just read a rather interesting article that came through the SLA's Legal Division email list: “Exclusive: Inside the New Westlaw, Lexis & Bloomberg Platforms” http://bit.ly/8i2B2U

As a recent graduate still looking for a job in legal research, I find the article both helpful and frustrating:
When I left school last May I was a whiz at performing legal research on both Westlaw and NexisLexis ... essential skills for a law librarian. But to see that I soon will be sadly outdated and with no viable options at present to "play catch up" in tackling the upcoming changes is scary to say the least.
Admittedly, there were so many clunky parts to using either database that a more Google-like change is most definitely for the best. I look forward to seeing what both companies put out and only wish I could play with the new toys. If anyone has access to one or the other during this transitional time, please feel free to share news of the changes... :)

Currently, I'm reading "Drunkard's Walk- How Randomness Rules Our Lives"
The author states that we often come to conclusions about events in life based on the frequency of the event happening. Such as deciding the outcome of an election by polling a certain number of voters, and then coming to conclusions about the election results. But he uses mathematics to prove that all events are truly random.
