I'm interested in hearing what some of your concerns are as well as your solutions. I coach new librarians in how to land employment, seek promotion as well as make an impact in their communities.

Comment by Oyadeyi Adekunle Emmanuel on July 23, 2012 at 5:35am Hello,
there is need for the new and upcoming librarians to be equipped with IT skills, the challenge in the profession is becoming more tasking, especially at a time when everything is going virtual, librarianship not excluded. However, my experience so far in the past seven month in the e-library of Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria has been rewarding. Although, the E-library was lifeless when i came; i met non-used workstations with two academic databases; a new and growing University though, but now, with the support from the school and library management, the databases and e-journal services have skyrocketed significantly. the first thing i put in place was to build the library website simple enough for user navigation, with different platforms for the user community. Looks some how easy, yes; its because i have the skill. (web design and hosting, little knowledge in computer networking, host of other internet skills). most times, gaining the skill become gaining employment reduces your challenges and gives you an edge above others, even those you meet on the job...
