"Okay- anyone here have a YA collection in their elem middle school? If so do you have a written policy that limits the YA collection to a grade or age level? What do you say or do if a younger grade goes to check out books from the YA collectio?"

Another day in the life and times of a school librarian

The day started when I realized I had to just go and see Matt about my presenting the DCFbooks to his classes. He said the kids aren't reading the DCF books. Then I mentioned they might not be reading them because I hadn't talked about them yet, because he never got back to me aout a schedule. He smiled and at least he said, oops. Not so with the 6th grade teacher. She said she was waiting for me to get to her....she gave me times and I never responded...Not- I did talk to her and every time she…See More

About Me:
Library Media Specialist since 1972, worked in libraries since high school. I always wanted to be a librarian. I love libraries. I love to read, read, read. I used to keep track of everything I read but it became too tedious. I have been known to read more than 500 books one year. I think I no long read word for word but scan phrases and see those phrases as moving pictures in my mind.

Hi Georgeanne,
Our school is using iPods to create research based podcasts at the fourth grade level. Students will be researching their topics in groups, with websites preselected for them to use on different topics. Students will be introduced to website evaluation prior to choosing their topic, in their library class. The iPods are barcoded and marked with the school's name. Students will be able to check them out on an overnight basis to take home for their parents to listen and critique.
