Library 3.0

I am interested in Library 2.0; however my ultimate interest is actually Library 3.0.

My background prior to pursing library science was software development, and looking at the OPAC interface in most library systems, we have a long way to…

Yay! a second chance

Congrats to Steve Hargadon for taking on the administrative role. Perhaps we can have a discussion on what to do to make things active once again.

Please don't kill it

The blog helps librarians to communicate and share knowledge with each other. I request you to maintain it and just spam irrelevant users.

Cultural Research Launches Library Innovation Blog

I've started blogging at my Cultural Research site which originally launched as an archive of my academic research papers.

I'm particularly focused on connecting perspectives gained as a web publisher to the world of academic libraries though I also draw examples from public libraries, book publishers and any other source that seems relevant to rethinking our assumptions as librarians.

Lately I've been doing some simple book… Continue

I have not contributed but I often sign in to look at posts and find useful information. I would be disappointed if the sight when away. I've invited others to join.

New Open Source Digitial Library System

I wasn't quite ready to announce this yet, but since this group is being archived, I wanted to make a quick post.

Ibidem is a digital library system, focused on data entry and work flow. Its data is then available via OAI-PMH. Other features include a user definable metadataset with a dynamic controlled vocabulary.

I expect it to be feature complete by 4/2/2010. At which point it will be opened up for public beta. The goal is to… Continue

Please keep it

I do not often have a chance to check this site, but when I do it is always a great pleasure. I do hope you will keep it up and running. I will work hard to visit more often.

Yes of course it worth to keep this group in the air!

In Europe we have several 'Library 2.0' groups which work quite effectively. In the Netherlands it is called 'Bibliotheek 2.0' and it has hundreds of enthousiastic members who also participate in discussions, blogs, etc. I also participate in a group called 'Civil Servant 2.0' and there we have a group of editors who edits and moderates blogs, discussions, etc. Because we know that people also wants to meet each other in the flesh we also organize 'Open Coffee' sessions and they are quite… Continue

Another day in the life and times of a school librarian

The day started when I realized I had to just go and see Matt about my presenting the DCFbooks to his classes. He said the kids aren't reading the DCF books. Then I mentioned they might not be reading them because I hadn't talked about them yet, because he never got back to me aout a schedule.

He smiled and at least he said, oops.

Not so with the 6th grade teacher. She said she was waiting for me to get to her....she gave me times and I never responded...Not- I did talk to her… Continue

Location based services/pages your library should claim or monitor

Location based apps and services are getting a lot of buzz these days. Users can create webpages for each location, and usually they can check in to indicate to friends their location, earn points to gain "Mayorship" and/or post reviews and tips. In many cases, these services provide legitimate owners of these locations to "claim" the location.

Here are a few sites with such services that you should claim or monitor to… Continue
