Using RSS feeds to distribute library news - 6 ways

Okay, I'm a big fan of RSS feeds, many of the posts here involve manipulating or consuming RSS feeds in some form, and social media is essentially tied to RSS. "Aggregating

sources for academic research in a web 2.0 world"
is probably my

most popular post on how to consume RSS feeds from various sources. "…

New Open Source Digitial Library System

I wasn't quite ready to announce this yet, but since this group is being archived, I wanted to make a quick post.

Ibidem is a digital library system, focused on data entry and work flow. Its data is then available via OAI-PMH. Other features include a user definable metadataset with a dynamic controlled vocabulary.

Library Routes Project

The Library Routes Project wiki was set up last year to find out how librarians got into their present job.

Quote: "The idea is to document either or both of your library roots - how you got into the profession in the first place, and what made you decide to do so - and your library routes - the career path which has taken you to wherever you are today. As well as being interesting of itself, it will also provide much needed information and context for those just entering the… Continue

Glogster!

Most of you have probably heard of Glogster but if you haven't, I suggest you try it out! The .edu.glogster site is now private and is an amazing tool for student work. This year our school theme is Star Trek and I created a Star Trek themed Glog web for our school. It will continue to grow as the year progresses but if you would like to see it go to:
http://mckilloplibrary.edu.glogster.com/McKillop-Home/
I will be posting more book reviews there as we get into the school year.

How Important is Patron Privacy at Your Library? 5 Tips for Increased Security

How Important is Patron Privacy at Your Library?

I've never ever had a librarian tell me "we do not care about patron privacy or security at our library." And come to think of it, I haven't had them even say it's not that big of a deal. Security breaches stink and they can be harmful as the news of Twitter's secret information exposed shows. But they're also embarrassing and ultimately very time consuming for those involved. What's more, there are simple things that can be done to avoid them, keep things secure and keep… Continue

I have to say that this is the one single confererence where I learn the most, am the most energized and become recommitted to our role.
