Short Session Description (one line):

How to develop the skills you need when you become an accidental instructional design librarian.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

It has become apparent that the need for librarians to have instructional design skills is rapidly growing. Not every library can afford to hire a new librarian who is already trained in these skills or pay for current employees to take courses to develop these skills. Sometimes, as I did, you fall into instructional design positions to fill the needs of the library you work for. This presentation will share with you ways to develop your instructional design skills even if you are a novice at creating learning materials and content. Attendees will leave the session having tangible avenues to develop their skills as instructional designers and instructors.

If we could encourage through campus payment of tuition would you recommend that MLS librarians go back and get a 2nd master's in education technology so that instructional design in terms of a big picture is a part of how they view the universe?

Andrea L. Williams, associate university librarian of public services @ Midwestern State University (Moffett Library)
