Short Session Description (one line): The internet is filled with amazing tools and resources, but identifying and curating these resources along with identifying relevance of these resources is the tricky part.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Curating educational resources is best done by humans as opposed to a bunch of algorithms despite the amount of metadata available. Curation yields high quality results when resources are sieved and hand coded for relevance through subject matter as experts (educators). This session will discuss how one such effort led to curating K-12 online education resources in subjects like Arts, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, English Language Arts, Health, Languages, Math, Science, Social Studies and Special education, further identifying the content as an App or assessment or curriculum or game or tool or policy or for professional development or video or worksheet and the applicable grade range. A five step process helped narrow the utilitarian aspect of each individual resource as applicable in both K-12 school setting and family setting. Further, resources suited for implementing the Common Core Standards were labelled appropriately to help educators in a timely manner.
The 300+ educational resources curated using this project will be disseminated through this session.
