Full Session Description (as long as you would like): This session shares examples of virtual world librarianship in 3D immersive environments, such as Second Life, Opensim, Inworldz, or Kitely. Exploring and utilizing new media formats and communication venues, such as virtual and augmented reality, are important for libraries and librarians of the future. Dr. Valerie Hill has been researching virtual worlds for ten years and is currently serving as President of the Community Virtual Library. The core values of librarianship and the skills of information professionals can be embedded in virtual worlds to deliver information to individuals in virtual communities across distance in persistent computer-generated virtual environments. Illustrating the best practices of virtual world librarianship, this session will share 3D exhibits, global programs, interactive immersive learning spaces, and professional networking opportunities for librarians in virtual worlds.
