The Ready to Read Corps was created as part of the Columbus Metropolitan Library's strategic plan, which has a focus on young minds from "cradle to car keys."  The purpose of our team is to transform communities by increasing the likelihood for success in school for children age newborn to five years old.  Our 16-member team works with social service agencies such as WIC offices, medical centers, and food pantries to find parents and caregivers of little ones to provide early literacy training and kindergarten readiness information from the research in Every Child Ready to Read. Our team is a one-of-a-kind force goes beyond the brick-and-mortar walls of the traditional libraries and spends their days in at-risk communities, equipped with a suitcase of board books, a free early literacy kit for parents, and a lot of passion and commitment for improving the odds for parents and little ones who need it most.
