It's hard to believe it was on a year ago when I was asking this question. We were having trouble getting approval from the County IT to use icons rather than hyperlink. That has changed slowly over the year without too big a fuss. The fact that we needed to make the Sacramento Public Law Library service highly visible on our front page helped break the ice. Since then we've been able to modify a few of the existing links.
The next goal is to set up a social networking resource and see if we can't drive some traffic our way. One idea that I see being used successfully these days is business card size promotions of online resources and services. Patrons like them and they are quick and easy to print up as needed. We're short staffed and under budget crunch so when simple and cheap equals fast, new and shiny, we have a winning plan.
