Dr Ram,

I have initiated 5s in the library. Though it is not a new concept to the library field as it has the weeding procedure.

I would like to know what exactly you have planned for TQM in the library so that I can contribute.

Also you talked about benchmarking in the libraries. What type of library you are referring to? I am working in corporate library. I could contribute to benchmarks in the corporate libraries

If we follows five laws of library science in new context in our library - TQM will comes automatically. We should installed a suggestion box in library and time to time feedback of user about library services is very urgent task for TQM. We may frame a sub committee of selected library staff for TQM application in library.

Quality and service excellence is a burning issue in todays library and information science discipline. TQM is a system of ongoing process which is a concern of strategic meaning. More or less in service industry or library quality always deals with the requirement of customers (users) requirement. Here for library we can say continuous improvement. If we see library users as customer than the library is the suppliers of effective learning tools, environments, and systems to the customers. With the help of the management or even research project it may be set what is the present condition of the library, what should be achieved, what are the minimum requirement, what are the current requirement, what are the expectation. The TQM should deal with the principles of service excellence, teamwork, ongoing training and skill building, process/systems focus, continuous improvement, and cooperation across the community and beyond within the library planning and policy.
