Important Volunteer Information

A HUGE and special thanks to you volunteers for the conference!  Here are some notes that you will want to keep handy during the event:

  • Please come into the volunteer and presenter lounge room 30 minutes before your volunteer sessions begin. The link to the lounge is http://www.thevolunteerlounge.me. From the lounge, a volunteer coordinator will assign you to moderate a specific upcoming session. You will use the hidden page listed below to get the moderator link to enter your assigned room. If you find you are having any difficulties, you can keep your assigned room open and also open the lounge room to ask for help.
  • The times you signed up to volunteer can be seen on the schedule page for your time zone, at the bottom of the page below the presenter listings.
  • IMPORTANT: The private page that lists the moderator/presenter links for each session is http://www.library20.com/page/presenter-and-moderator-room-links. This page is just for moderators and presenters, so please do not share it as we do not want any participants entering session rooms as moderators.
  • Information about the training for presenters and volunteer moderators is available at http://www.library20.com/page/training.
  • Please continue to let people know about this free conference!

Hi Debbie, I will be able to volunteer again this year and will hopefully take up some of the horrible time slots you have trouble filling - I'm in Australia GMT+11.

Hello Annika!

I'm so glad you will be volunteering again this year. One big change: the conference will be from 7 am to around 9 or 10 pm each evening Pacific Time (GMT -7) instead of round-the-clock. That will simplify some issues such as having volunteers in the wee hours.  Please choose whichever hours will work well for you.

Mapenzi, thank you! It is amazing to me to be able to make connections all around the globe as we join in this conference. Your help will be much appreciated by the presenter(s)  you will assist.

To prepare, please do these two things:

1) Sign up for the times when you can assist. Here's the sign-up page: https://library2014volunteer.youcanbook.me/

emember to allow 30 minutes before the start of a session for preparation time. So if you sign up for a session that begins at 4 pm, you'll need to login at 3:30.

2) Get trained by joining a training session or watching a recording. See the list of sessions and a recording on this page:  http://www.library20.com/page/training

I tried to register ob the blackboard collaborate but the captcha image is not revealing itself. I used diferent methods but it continues to appear like the image I sent. I don't think it has to do with my network because I am accessing videos and images from other sites. Help!

Mapenzi--can you please confirm the exact URL that leads to the page with the missing captcha? I'm assuing it is http://try.bbcollaborate.com/trial/register.go  but please check carefully to confirm.

In the meantime, let's discuss a workaround. It's not critical that you sign up for the free trial of Collaborate and have your own room. Here is a room I have set up that is always open and that has slides that teach about how to use Collaborate's whiteboard tools. Try it. You don't need to learn all about how to use these tools, but you can at least get some practice with logging in, advancing slides, and trying out the audio and the text chat.

Silly question, there are 4 presentations during the time I volunteered for, how do I know which one I am working on? Or will that be determined at the lounge session? Is it possible to request a specific session? Come to think of it, that was more than one silly question. :)

Good question(s), Eric, and I know others have wondered about this and asked me privately.

We make the volunteer/session match-ups in the volunteer lounge prior to each session. We try to determine where the greatest need for help is and then we send volunteers to help out accordingly. 

When we are able to do so, we ask the volunteers who are present if they have any preferences for which session they will assist. 

My best advice is to login 30 minutes before the session begins so that you are there when the match-ups begin, and also to be flexible just in case you are needed in a different session.

Hallo everyone. I didn't manage to attend my voluntary session which took place at 07:00pm (+2 GMT). I was dismayed to see this happening. My computer began freezing a few minutes before time. Worse more internet was a lil poor the I couldn't log on to the blackboard. I only managed to view a small session of the Session which began at 08:00pm (+2 GMT). Again internet fell and I returned back. What a great conference this one is.
