I am the Library Director at a Public Library. It is the third Library I have been director of, in addition to having run a multi-type cooperative. The support I have received has varied, depending on the corporate culture. I have had zero support. I have had registration paid for, but other expenses were on my own. I currently have registration, travel, and a per diem for food. I have even had all expenses paid. Some of the latter were when I represented the state association and when I served on ALA's Executive Board. I hope to get more of my staff involved by supporting activities. My current place supports CE for staff and Board members. I will have two Board members at ALA in DC, with one of those paid by the Library budget for travel.
It is important, and Library Administrators need to support our staff! That is part of why I am here, to set an example.
Are you a Library administrator at a PL or AL? AL's have a hard time getting funding from the Administration. They feel the library does not bring revenue and we do not get much money. The sports do though. They bring revenue. The president of ACRL says that AL are the front porch to the campus. AL's need to update with Library 2.0 but it takes $
