Library Visit

This is not like me - to visit a library when traveling!

While visiting friends in Brevard NC, I visited the new public library for Transylvania County. My photos are posted also. I had my camera only on the hike in the woods and the ride to the Blue Ridge Parkway, so for a photo of the library, you will need to check on the library's website. The library is bright and pleasant - and so were the staff members I spoke with. It… Continue

Seniors: left behind?

Although I am longer working for pay, I am working many hours a day on the computer. Now that I am retired, I do research for those clever enough to ask me. I am not clever enough myself, however, to figure out how to get people to pay me.

I am not old - just older- and interested in aging and healthy longevity. I am in the public library a couple of times a week now on the other side of the desk - an interesting perspective for sure.

I struggle on my own now with technology… Continue

Hi Sharon, would you like to participate in the Library 2.0 Member survey I created for my Research Methods class?! It's not very long, and is mostly demographic and interest information. If you do, I would appreciate any comments you have about how I could improve it. Thanks, Julie

The impact of "Who moved my cheese" is that as an academic librarian we no longer operate as we did even two years ago. Our reference desk is gone. We have reference desk duty kind of. It's in our office or at the internet cafe. The person at the circulation desk will call us and we follow the student to the Internet Cafe and they log in with their password and use their barcode to access the databases. We work right beside them. When not helping a student we are working on our projects. Such as our Subject guides moving them to Peanut Butter Wiki or trying to learn HTML. We only have one librarian who knows how to use HTML. Now it's required of all of us. This summer I am moving all my subject guides to a Socal Network.

Good for you what you are doing in retirement. I will retire in about seven years and what you are doing is something I can do when I retire.

Hi Sharon,

I'm glad to see you're using all this 2.0 stuff. There are a lot of interesting things going on right now and it's fun to experiment!
