The laptops have arrived

I elected to go through a reseller we've worked with on several occasions in lieu of having to haggle with Dell, HP, etc. Here's what we managed to get.

Dell Vostro 1500

2 gig RAM

1.60 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated Video Ram

In Search of a new ILS Vol. 1

We had a meeting with a rep from Polaris today. He, of course, made the product sound quite wonderful. We currently have plans to migrate to SirsiDynix's Rome, but our director wanted to meet with other companies before doing so.

One thing I really dislike about Unicorn, our current ILS, is the difficulty in customizing the OPAC. Even minor changes require skill with UNIX code, which I do not have. Polaris' OPAC allows editing in HTML! So practical, I'm really suprised Sirsi hasn't… Continue

Laptop Love

Yesterday I was instructed to begin shopping for 9 laptops; 8 for a lab, one for myself. I'm currently surfing the web for good deals but have yet to find anything substantial. I have a few specs (15" display, at least 2 usb ports, wireless card, MS office), and told to not go to Best Buy. Best Buy has a bad reputation from the general public, but I've found if you know how to cut through the salesman crap it's not so bad.

A whole new world ...

I started work at my local library on July 5. Up until then, I updated a website for a local jewelry business known as House Of Onyx, INC. This job has quite a bit more responsibility and things to learn than my previous one.
