Library 2.0

the future of libraries in the digital age

I was dreading working this last Saturday, because a certain book was being released. I had nightmares about mobs of people waiting outside the library (kind of like the after Thanksgiving Day sales). Not many people came in or called. I guess that they were all sitting at home speed reading. What a nice day to catch up on ordering and other things.

I dont work in a library as yet(I am about to graduate from library school) but our local library was hopping the Friday AFTER book 7 came out (July 27) because it hosted MuggleCast and the rock band the Remus Lupins. What a great idea to send Harry Potter related programs to public libraries. There were several hundred people there!

It was a quiet Saturday here @ my library too. Our copy of the book was still sitting @ the bookstore. No way was I going to subject myself to the hordes of people waiting to get no 7. So I actually got some plans made for summer reading wrap up party and cleared off part of my desk.

We experienced the same thing at my library. Some very excited fans came in to get their books, but it was not at all busy. I too, believe they were all sitting at home reading. I would have done the same thing if I could have!
