the future of libraries in the digital age

I should mention that I'm finally on Facebook as well.
The tipping point for me was working extra shifts at the combined high school/public branch library at my MPOW, where I was talking with the full-time librarian, who said he fielded questions from the students via Facebook on a daily basis.
So I guess I can handle 3 online profiles after all.
And, of course, there's no comparision between Facebook and MySpace: FB is far more user-friendly and robust.

Last night, I read Rochelle's post, Collegiality in Twitter (see [http://rochellejustrochelle.typepad.com/copilot/2007/03/collegiality_in.html]), in which she described two cases where Twitter was very useful for professional and academic work. It was quite a compelling post.
Then this morning, the thought occurred to me: ok, so Twitter can be used as a public, multi-user SMS...I see how that would be really helpful...
Well,duh - have some sympathy for a late-adopter.

I meant to post this a couple days after joining the Library2.0Ning, but now I see it's almost two weeks later. Such is life
Just wanted to say that I'm finding this a felicitous space and, just like Jessica The Cool Librarian, I'll keep coming back "just for all the library-goodness."
Having said that, I think I'll continue visiting MySpace and using that whenever I'm compelled to post or link to anything. Despite all its drawbacks, it's the best fit for me,…

Well, Rochelle aka TinFoilRaccoon first directed my attention towards this network. Then, moments later I saw Kathryn Greenhill's March 5th post on her librariansmatter.com blog.
The Library 2.0 Ning Network sure looks nifty and has great credentials, so I've decided to join.
Not sure how much I'll do here personally though...How many social sites can you participate in before you implode? Reminds me of the co-operative sector in that regard...
At any rate; hello Library…

I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.
Sincerely,
Mike McQueen

I agree about the insane number of social apps, but I've already found that I check in here frequently - just because of all the library-goodness. It's MySpace that I never visit...
Have a great day!
