Cant we use networks in providing short range Reference services to our users in Academic libraries?

I think networks could be useful for public libraries to get in contact with the younger audience. In academic libraries it's much harder to find a use for it.

I prefer to use networks to get in contact with colleagues.

The reason is "diversity", maybe. And the need that different people want to profile themselves with founding such a network. ;o)
