Short Session Description (one line): Everyone Can! ¡Todos Podemos! Bilingual Storytimes for Equity and Inclusion

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): 

     Patrons who do not speak the dominant language are often unintentionally excluded from library programming. Often, these linguistic communities overlap with marginalized communities who could most benefit from library services. 

     Whether you are a monolingual, bilingual, or multilingual librarian you can design bilingual storytimes to reach, engage, and include your whole community. In this session we will provide rationale, examples, and strategies for developing children’s programming which reflects the linguistic needs of your patrons. Ideas for in person and virtual programming are included.  

We will share ideas for everyone to be exposed to and learn some vocabulary in a language that they do not master.  Speakers of English will be exposed to Spanish.  Spanish speakers will be exposed to English.  Other language speakers will be exposed to both, English and Spanish.
