Are you a
Librarian
About Me:
I conducted hundreds of information literacy and training sessions to students and faculty members. I also served as a liaison librarian to faculty and students. The new library website will be launched within few weeks (time of opening the new library). LibGuides will be included to address the needs of all the university community. I took advantage of my experience and skills which I learned in the US and UAE to implement the library services. I have also conducted library consultations in different countries. This includes either creating health libraries from scratch or assessing existing libraries to meet the standards for libraries in higher education. From 2006-2009, as the Library Manager at Harvard Medical School Dubai Center at Dubai Health Care City, I was responsible for all aspects of the management of the library, which included establishing and leading the planning, direction, development, and operation of the administrative and services functions of the library. I graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, US, in May, 2009, gaining a Master of Library Science (MLS/ALA), accredited by American Library Association. I also received an “Exceptional International Student Award” from this university. During this time I acquired a number of new skills, including library automation, creating digital libraries, RFID solutions, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA’s), Virtual Reference Desk (VRD) service, managing electronic resources, negotiating licenses and agreements, collection development, conducting information literacy sessions, installing Integrated Library Systems (ILS), managing library staff, and other library services and functions. Each MLS student was asked to create a capstone portfolio summarizes the education we obtained through Southern Connecticut State University. From January to June 2006, I was trained at the Harvard Medical School Countway Medical Library, in Boston, Massachusetts. During this time I took advance medical librarianship class at Simmons College, an eminent educational institution. While in the US, I presented a number of papers and talks at institutions and conferences for medical librarians and attended professional development activities, including a four-day visit at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) in Bethesda, Maryland. From 1996 to 2005, I worked as a hospital librarian at Tawam Hospital. I did also a lot of changes and offered plenty of library services for Tawam community, Institute of Nursing community (currently Fatima college), and UAE University College of Medical Professions community. I participated in many conferences in the UAE like the “UAE International conference on Health Care Ethics” (10-13 Mar. 2002). From 1986 to 1996, I worked as a Deputy Academic Librarian at the College of Medical Professions/Al Quds University in Ramallah/Palestine and served students and faculty members. As an international speaker at conferences, I presented many talks for librarians and faculty members in different countries. One of the benefits of being educated and trained at both US and UAE academic and professional institutions is the ability to work in demanding and dynamic multicultural environment and with people with differing cultural and professional backgrounds. I would greatly welcome the opportunity to take on the challenges of working at your institution and thus continue to use my skills to further develop services and facilities at your institution for the benefit of your community.
