Somerset College Senior School Library
About Me:
I am the Librarian at Somerset College, a privately owned school on a wine farm in the beautiful Western Cape, just outside Somerset West, about 45 minutes away from Cape Town. I teach Afrikaans Home Language to three grades, assist in the Life Orientation classes with research skills, run the debating club and the exchange programme (with a colleague). Not surprisingly, I love reading and belong to an active reading group in Stellenbosch, a picturesque university town close by. I'm also very fond of films and classical music. At the moment I am completing a thesis on translation, focusing on a translation into Afrikaans of Geraldine McCaughrean's Gilgamesh the hero. I have a Trivial Pursuit mind and is interested in a variety of subjects - sports probably on the lowest rung. The internet as tool for finding and sharing information is powerful yet problematic: helping young people to find their way through the quagmire is very important to the Librarians of the twenty first century!
