About Me:
I have devoted my entire professional life to helping librarians build better communities. A lifelong student of leadership studies, my research and work in the area of library leadership began in 2002 as Program Director at the Leadership Institute at Syracuse University. Since then, I have worked with many of today’s top library leaders, facilitating programs at well over 200 libraries throughout the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Over 20,000 librarians, staff and trustees have attended my leadership and professional development programs. And when I'm not facilitating a professional development program, you’ll find me in a library working with librarians, one-on-one, helping them achieve their goals through all-staff development, organizational and leadership development, strategic planning, community and civic engagement, and trustee training and development. In addition to my ongoing in-the-field activities, I also co-founded, developed, and continues to serve as the lead instructor for the Pennsylvania Library Association’s Academy of Leadership Studies (now in its 12th year). In 2012, I teamed up with Library Journal and created and developed what has become Library Journal Professional Development For Today’s Librarian. In 2019, I partnered with the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association and the University of Pittsburgh School Library Certification Program to develop and facilitate Leading At Any Level: Leadership Development for Pennsylvania School Librarians, a program consisting of on-site regional leadership development programs held across the state. I also speak at numerous state, national, and international conferences throughout the year and I've served as a visiting instructor at Syracuse University, Cornell University, and the School of Information at The University of Texas at Austin.
