About Me:
Dr. Sara Duvall: Is the Lead for Media & Technology at Ann Arbor Skyline High School and the District Department Chair for Secondary School Libraries. Dr. Duvall is a former business CEO who became fascinated with making free public education meet the needs of students in today’s world. She joined Ann Arbor Public Schools as member of the founding team of Skyline High School. She holds a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership & Curriculum and instigates change wherever she goes. She is the curator of TEDxYouth@AnnArbor, a licensed independent TED event to provide a powerful platform for Youth Voice across Ann Arbor. She lead her team at Skyline to win the Gale/Cengage Teams Award in 2011. Dr. Duvall has published several articles with her Skyline team about the Curriculum & Portfolio Integration Project. The project has expanded into organization of digital research through Student Learning Networks, and a modern organization of library research materials for ease of access digitally. She openly shares the ‘process’ used and the results garnered in print, online and at conferences in order to create a widely replicable model for 21st century education. Ian Jukes, educator and futurist said, “We must teach our students for their future, not our past.” She is passionate about how we actually change our teaching and library practices to accomplish education that is relevant to our students’ future. Dr. Duvall lives by this mandate. She suggests that teachers take every assumption about education off the table and start fresh with a simple question: “What do students actually need from their education today for their success tomorrow?” Her idea is that only teachers and librarians can change that elusive “how we learn.” Not central offices, not administrators, not politicians, not business owners…teachers and librarians. The success of Library 2.0 is the success of all learners.
