About Me:
ames (Jimi) Wilson is a former U.S. Army telecommunications sergeant who is now an independent scholar, tutor, and freelance copy editor. Raised the son of a newspaper editor mother and U.S. Army officer father, he spent his early years moving with his family from duty station to duty station, eventually settling in Fayetteville, North Carolina, at age ten. In 1998 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving stateside at Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Benning, Georgia; and Fort Gordon, Georgia. Upon returning to civilian life in 2002 he earned simultaneous bachelor's degrees at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke in 2006--a Philosophy and Religion BA and a Mass Communication BS in Journalism. In 2008 he completed his Religion MA at the University of Florida, where he specialized in the study of Asian religions with an emphasis on ethnography of religions of India. His MA thesis, "Punk Rock Puja," examined popular culture dissemination of elements of Hindu religious practices and thought in the west via punk and post-punk music/subculture. Continuing his studies at the University of Florida, Mr Wilson's postgraduate work expanded his Asian religions emphasis to include an ecological sustainability focus that entailed on-site study of ecological initiatives in North India. Although he finished coursework, Mr. Wilson declined to complete his PhD, preferring to return, along with his wife, to their North Carolina home. He currently provides proofreading and copy editing services to scholars, provides learning center tutoring services in humanities and social sciences, and is a full-time library and information sciences graduate student.
