    About Me:

I'm one of thousands of disgruntled classroom teachers who've left the profession due to political machinations, after teaching English, Speech and Print/Broadcast Journalism for twenty years. State/federal mandates were being shoved down our collective throats by legislators who'd either never set foot in front of a classroom or else that experience was so far removed from the present as to make it obsolete. Regardless of what school district administrations claimed, we WERE being told to 'teach-to-the-test' and were limited in our scope to a strict adherence to policy/curriculum guidelines. This situation I found to be untenable; it just stuck in my craw and I couldn't abide cheating students out of a rounded education! Only those of us in the trenches on the front lines of education, as it were, know what students need, and I consider being told what to teach an excellent example of unmitigated audacity! I still have a strong yearning to impart knowledge, however, and I want to do so through work in the library. I wish to acquire a Master's in Library Science, work on such to begin in the not-too-distant future! So with that in mind, I'd find the conference vastly informative and, therefore, enjoyable. Thank you so much for the opportunity to enhance our patrons' experience!
