2nd Primary School of Thrakomakedones
About Me:
My name is Ourania Vasiliki Doula and I am a primary school teacher in Greece. As you may know, Greece is undergoing a huge financial, political and social crisis which started in 2009. This crisis is severely affecting public education. Understaffed schools, few resources, small wages etc. are some of our problems. In every crisis, there are opportunities that emerge that can change our living conditions. I strongly believe that education is the best opportunity we have. I grew up in a family of teachers, where discussions regarding education and how it’s best practiced happened every day. When I finally got my degree in Pedagogics and started to work I remember being so confused. How could I transform theory into practice? In Greece, we have one (1) course book for every lesson. After some years of experience, I realized this was not enough. I needed to enhance my lessons not only by using technology but I wanted to produce Educational Material that corresponded to the needs of my classroom and the way I want to teach. For 5 years I produced materials I used in class. On December of 2015, I decided to start publishing these materials so I created a site called Anoixtes Taxeis (open classrooms). There was a trend I started to notice. My guided and creative writing resources where the ones I used most and where downloaded the most. So, I decided to create a new home for these resources, a new site called Mikra Mathimata Grafis (Little Writing Lessons).
