Gone are the days when libraries filled out cumbersome disaster plans as long as 100 pages that ultimately were not much use in an emergency. Today, libraries must learn to make use of the tools developed by emergency responders that focus on agility and adaptability to the specific incident at the scene. These tools are deliberately concise, direct, and clear. They are meant to help a library disaster team kick into action quickly and aggressively to gain control of the situation, and reopen as soon as possible.
This presentation will introduce you to three of these tools. Two to implement before a disaster—one for the library and one for the community, and one for quick action after a disaster to reopen in some capacity as soon as possible. Altogether they contribute to the resiliency of a community, the ability to weather the storm and return to normalcy as quickly as possible.
