Short Session Description (one line): Houston Public Library offers Summer Camps for Low to Moderate Income families called camp STREAM - delivering activities in Science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and mathematics

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): The session will detail how camp STREAM started, how it is funded, how the curriculum was put together & the collaborations HPL pulls together to deliver a week long camp for kids K-12.

Camp STREAM began in 2014, when HPL turned its focus to the need for educational summer supplements that combat learning loss during week-long camps to students in Kindergarten – 12th Grade. Each week, students will learn and engage in activities based on Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Reading. HPL also provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks to all the students during Camp week. Camp STREAM also includes guest speakers from various non-profit and community organizations across the city and amazing off-site field trips, allowing campers to experience a wide range of engaging activities. Children learn critical thinking, problem solving & team work.

Camp STREAM  takes place in participating libraries in-person and virtually. Camp STREAM is always provided at no cost to participants thanks to a generous donation from The Powell Foundation and the Houston Public Library Foundation, as well as in-kind support via other participating organizations.
