Short Session Description (one line): After 15 years of research in virtual environments for libraries and education, the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium was formed to help colleagues network and share best practices in virtual reality (headset VR) and virtual worlds (desktop VR).

Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Everyone is talking about the Metaverse!  But it is not a new concept and many librarians and educators have already been working in the metaverse for years.  Come learn about accomplishments in real librarianship in the metaverse, both on desktop and VR headsets.  Designing learning spaces that promote critical thinking and deep learning alongside metaliteracy and digital citizenship requires understanding of best practices and the ability to choose the best technology tools for specific purposes. Librarians are pioneers in new media formats and have understood about changing literacy both before and after the close of the Gutenberg Parenthesis. Research documenting successful immersive learning projects and embedded librarianship in virtual environments will be shared in this session along with discussion on future obstacles and issues presented by the evolving information landscape of the Metaverse.
