Hi, Cohort Members!

Workbook 5: Ethics & Boundaries

Purpose: Define your library’s ethical stance on AI, set clear boundaries, and decide when and how to disclose AI use. You'll:

  • Draft a short Ethical Use Statement grounded in the five ALA values, or your own values.
  • Classify Boundaries of Use with Red / Yellow / Green Lights across key areas.
  • Build a Transparency Grid that specifies when and how you’ll disclose AI use, with short, plain-language examples.

Workbook 6: Policies & Oversight

Purpose: Identify which policies to update, draft or revise your AI policy, and clarify decision rights. You’ll:

  • Complete a short Policy Review.
  • Draft or update your AI policy using five anchor questions. (Use the provided AI Policy Template if helpful.)
  • Define Decision Rights: who proposes, approves, and monitors AI projects.

Suggested Due Date: November 4

This keeps the cohort moving steadily from vision into practical planning. You can:

  • Divide up the work by assigning sections to different team members, then regroup to review and edit, or
  • Work through it together during meetings if that fits your team’s rhythm.
  • Flexibility is key: Adapt or skip any sections that don’t fit your context right now. Focus on momentum over perfection.

Tip: Head over to the recording PDF slides for links to all the examples shared during the session (on your Tier homepage starting October 23). These can help spark ideas as you complete your workbooks.

Share & Discuss

  • Please post your reflections, discoveries, and drafts in this forum. Comment on others’ posts to offer ideas or encouragement. Seeing how different libraries approach this stage is one of the most valuable parts of the cohort.
  • I’ll be in the forum as well, offering comments, encouragement, and light coaching to help you refine your plans and troubleshoot challenges.
  • You can also email Crystal and Steve with specific questions: librariesforward@gmail.com
