Full Session Description (as long as you would like):
- Libraries are inherently cultural hubs, and recent projects at SUNY Oneonta’s Milne Library demonstrate how art can further energize these spaces to spark creativity, foster connection, and deepen community engagement. This presentation will showcase initiatives that highlight the library’s role in engaging diverse audiences through art. Featured projects include: a collaborative collection development effort between the university and local public library that resulted in a shared public art collection for the wider community; an in-house art installation featuring works by library staff, which celebrated hidden talents and strengthened workplace camaraderie; and a gel printmaking project that began as one librarian’s personal passion and grew into well-attended creative sessions at both the university and public libraries. Collectively, these initiatives reveal how integrating art into library spaces can cultivate vibrant, reflective, and inclusive environments built on creativity and collaboration.
