Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Generative AI is a changing technology that is surrounded by mystery and both ethical and moral considerations. How can libraries work to not only educate, but imbue creative writing, critical thinking, reflection and dare I say – fun, into the way that we model generative AI to our patrons? Christchurch City Libraries have developed a programme that does just that. It aims to encourage effective, informed, responsible AI use. The programme brings patrons on the journey of creating a character, imagining who they are and where they live and turns this study into prompts for AI generated imagery. They can then choose to use our Auahatanga Creative Spaces to bring their vision to life with a laser cut and 3D printed diorama. Throughout this programme, patrons are asked to discuss and reflect on their knowledge and feelings about AI. This session will include parts of the programme including character creation, generating effective prompts for an image and basic education and reflection on using AI as a tool.
