Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

We live in an AI-embedded world now. In our daily lives, we frequently use AI-powered products either knowingly or unknowingly. These realities make AI Literacy, the ability to understand basics of AI and apply it, essential for everyone. AI-literate people are expected to understand how AI works, identify AI examples in everyday life, are aware of its impact and limitation, and use AI tools thoughtfully and ethically. Public libraries, with their commitment to accessible learning and community engagement, are uniquely positioned to support people in developing AI literacy. By creating educational programs that encourage self-directed learning and by providing accessible resources, public libraries can help people become AI-literate individuals. For this purpose, Plano Public Library has developed multiple AI programs for different target audiences. In each program, the goal is to encourage patrons to explore AI and begin their self-directed learning journey toward AI literacy. Different approaches are used depending on the audience’s needs. In this presentation, we will share our experience in developing and providing AI programs along with a few examples.
