Refusing AI Through a Social Justice Lens

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

The dominant discourse around AI presents librarians with a presumed inevitability about its role in transforming the knowledge environment. This narrative has gained momentum at a shocking pace, and there are growing calls to seriously consider the often hidden negative consequences and implications of adopting AI tools in our teaching, learning, and patron service delivery. This talk will approach the topic of AI refusal through a social justice lens, considering the exploitative, hidden labour practices behind these AI tools and the human impacts of AI data centres on marginalized communities.
