About Me:
Kristen Johnson graduated magna cum laude from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s in social studies education, where she also played Division I field hockey. She has taught ancient history at Carteret Middle School for thirteen years and is passionate about creating a positive school culture through restorative and responsive classroom practices. Kristen has served as an advisor for schoolwide Positive Behavioral Support Programs and Climate and Culture initiatives throughout her career. In 2020, she co-presented at the NJDOE’s Social and Emotional Learning Unconference, highlighting her school's SEL progress. As a former varsity track coach, she trained the 2019 NJSIAA Meet of Champions long jump champion. She currently advises the Student Council and mentors new teachers, also leading professional development on instructional technology. Kristen was named Carteret Teacher of the Year in both 2018–2019 and 2023–2024, and she is the 2024–2025 Middlesex County Teacher of the Year. She currently serves on the New Jersey Commissioner’s Teacher Advisory Council, advocating for educators and students statewide.
