A Library 2.0 Service, Safety, and Security Webinar with Dr. Steve Albrecht
OVERVIEW:
A 60-minute training webinar presented by Library 2.0 and hosted by ALA author and library service, safety, and security expert, Dr. Steve Albrecht.
There are five themes to team success in the library workspace:
- Well-functioning teams have learned to tolerate each other. They don’t have to love or even like each other, but they must know how to co-exist.
- Managers and supervisors need to be ready to intervene and use collaboration tools when individual employees are not getting along.
- High-performing teams stay that way because they use Ground Rules. These guidelines affect four key areas: meetings; communication; the boss’s expectations of the team; and the team’s expectations of the boss.
- Teams need Goals (what to do), Roles (who will do it), and Processes (how it will get done).
- All teams need praise to perform long-term. Kudos come from team members keeping their promises. This means they have learned how, why, and when to be both responsible and accountable for their work.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- How to use the concept of “Direct, Non-personal, Immediate Feedback” to build likability between team members.
- How to use one-on-one coaching meetings to solve employee conflicts, without anger, game-playing, reverting to the silent treatment, or tears.
- How to run a Ground Rules meeting with your team.
- Develop accountability and responsibility guidelines and measures for your team, especially with new employees and as part of on-boarding and orientation for new-hires.
