Short Session Description (one line): AI Literacy at Lunchtime: Texas Tech University Library’s Discussion-Based Workshop Series

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

Texas Tech University librarians are currently offering an 8-part series during the spring semester entitled AI Literacy at Lunchtime as a response to a survey of faculty and a general interest from the campus community. The series, hosted simultaneously in-person and online, is open to any student, staff or faculty member interested in the topic. This session for Library 2.0 will discuss the parts of the survey, the AI Literacy at Lunchtime series and its topics, as well as its development and basis in learner-centered and active learning pedagogies. The topics of the series include a critical overview, evaluating and detecting AI, writing and research tools, prompt engineering and privacy, the arts and multimedia, ethics and social justice, and how this technology is impacting the legal landscape of copyright and fair use. Threaded throughout the series are discussion questions which explore the potential impact of AI on our lives, including an unflinching examination of how the shortcomings of AI can also result in deep harms to historically underrepresented and marginalized groups and the environment. The sessions are facilitated by librarians and use Padlet for discussion, to encourage in-person and online learning. The LibGuide for the workshop series is also a community – sourced resource, in which we share the ideas, concerns and tools that participants mention throughout the series, the links to the recordings of the sessions, and the Padlet discussions.
