Short Session Description (one line): Can Generative AI be an author? Yes, no or maybe? This session explores how to think about generative AI and its role in the very human activity of authorship.
Full Session Description (as long as you would like): Can Generative AI be an author? Yes, no or maybe? Based on the results of a project to examine journal policies on Generative AI use in journal article publication, Robin Kear will present reasons for why Generative AI is generally not considered capable of authorship. We will explore the research results through different aspects of authorship, including creativity, agency, moral responsibility, and legal responsibility. We will discuss how to think about the use of augmentative Generative AI tools while writing, teaching and producing research.

This is an excellent presentation! I am excited to see this in action! It appears that these are focused on academic interests. I would be interested to see a comparable presentation that talks about AI "authorship" with non-academic works!
